Small business org chart template.

Use this simple template to turn your company structure into a shared reference. It works for a new team, a growing department, or a planned reorganization.

Fields to include for each person or role

Start with five useful fields: name, job title, team or department, direct manager, and a brief responsibility statement. For open positions, label the role as open and assign the intended manager.

Optional fields such as work location, time zone, start date, and profile photo can make the chart easier to use, but only include information that supports the work and is appropriate to share.

Example structure for a growing company

Founder or CEO
Product or service delivery lead
Sales or growth lead
Operations or finance lead
Customer support lead

As the business grows, add managers only when they provide clear coaching, prioritization, or decision ownership. Keep dotted-line relationships out of the primary reporting chart unless they are essential; they can make a small chart harder to read.

Org chart review checklist

  1. One manager per person

Confirm every person has a clear primary manager, even when they work across teams.

  2. One owner per major responsibility

Look for overlapping ownership or important work with no visible owner.

  3. Current job and team information

Update the chart after hires, departures, internal moves, and reorganizations.

  4. Appropriate visibility

Keep personal or sensitive employment information out of the shared chart.

When a spreadsheet or slide deck starts to fall behind, a live chart is easier to keep current. BranchWise HR is being built to provide that shared view for growing teams.
